Adult Aikido Classes ("Regular")

The standard adult aikido class is for all adult members to continue their training, from beginner to advanced.  Because of the techniques used in aikido, beginners and senior students can easily participate in the same class, with each level of student getting something different from a class.

This class will vary greatly and cover any range of attacks/defenses.

Randori

While recommended more for students who have passed as least one exam, it is not unusual to see new people in this fast-paced class.

Randori is as close to sparring as we get -- there is a very strong emphasis on defending against multiple attackers and the strategies to employ to help survive such an encounter.  Individual technique is usually not the focus of this class, but rather using the technique you already know, and then some.

In some cases, we will practice jiyu-waza, which is a slower version, but with more emphasis on using technique in a multiple-attacker scenario.

The main focus of this class is to prepare students for the fast-paced nature of randori, with multiple attackers, attacking simultaneously.  We drill exercises to learn how to move efficiently and safely, as well as "quickie" techniques that are more likely to work (and easier) to employ in randori.

Aikido Foundations

The Foundations class takes things back a notch, studying more about what makes aikido what it is.  We focus here on basic movements and techniques, along with a longer look at the exercises ("aiki taiso") everyone must learn.

Attendance to these classes by beginners is strongly recommended, since it gives us more time to learn about the building blocks of all aikido defenses and motions.

It is said that "advanced aikido technique is the same as the beginner's technique, only more simplified."  This is very true, and allows advanced students to pay attention to basic movements that can help refine the more difficult secondary/tertiary types of techniques.

Focus in this class falls squarely on the study of the basic principles of aikido, and why they are so important to overall effectiveness.

Waza Basics

This class reviews the basic movements behind our waza, or technique.  Here, beginners and experienced individuals alike will have the time to drill into what makes a basic technique work, and scenarios that commonly cause difficulty.  This is a slower-paced class that makes it ideal for all levels of experience.
